Anyone who's built a house??

    Looking for advice please. Currently living with the folks. Need to move out. I'd love to build my own house but am on a limited budget. I'd have to buy a site...approx 50k. Question is...could I get a small house (1700 sq ft) basic spec built with plumbing & electrics for 90k? even if we only live out of a couple of rooms and do it bit by bit...is it possible on that budget? Any help/guidance/tips would be b very gratefully received. I don't want to waste money on a site and end up running out of money really early on. thanks :)

    Btw area is Wexford

    Your figures work out to €53 per square foot which would seem wildly optimistic I'm afraid.

    Unless your able to do a huge amount of the work yourself then no hope.

    You could look at the likes of log homes, plenty of them about now and they've been around for a while so problems should be evident by now. Worth investigating.

    Also. Speaking from experience of building two houses. Grounds work soaks up serious money.
    Even a flat level site will require excavation some drains laid and a considerable amount of stone. That's without laying grass etc.

    When we moved into our first home we had no flooring, no doors, kitchen unfinished, outside of house unplastered and outside was rough as hell. But it saved two months rent which was great.
