    Hi all,

Not too sure what to do with my current problem. It is very embarrassing to be honest and I don't know how it's happening.

I'm 25 and work in an accountants. I completed leaving cert and accounting technician course but for the past 12 months or so my spelling and pronouncing of words is gone down hill so bad.

If it wasn't for spell check id be screwed.

When I'm reading emails or stuff online I find it difficult to pronounce some word or when writing emails spelling simple or everyday words is becoming more difficult. I never had this problem before and don't know how it's happening. It seems it's getting harder as times goes on. My Gf always says I pronounce things wrong and I kind of take no notice but now with my spelling I'm worried. If someone is next to me watching my screen I avoid writing emails because I'll get spellings so wrong. I am completely fine and have no speech problems but it's the odd word here or there id say wrong etc and people probably don't notice but I def do

Had any1 ever experienced this before? How can I improve it ?

Is this only a recent problem? Are they words you would never have had problems with previously? If this is something that has only started happening recently, then I would strongly urge you to go to your GP to investigate/rule out any underlying neurology. If your gf has noticed, I would guess others have too. But if it is not too bad then people won't pass any heed to it.

If it's already affecting your life to the point where you are avoiding certain situations then you absolutely need to have it investigated. It might be nothing. It might need a couple of sessions of some sort of therapy to set you on the right path, or it might need more specialist treatment.

    Go to your GP.

I would echo the above that if you feel it is significantly having an effect on your life and mental well-being you should check in with your GP. Especially if it's a recent occurrence (no instances prior to the twelve months)

If it's not a health concern I would genuinely suggest you spend less time on the Internet and start listening to books on tape, podcasts etc. Do brain training games also which will help over time.

Above all else do not worry what anyone else thinks. Most people are too wrapped up in themselves to notice and if they do, laugh it off.

Our brains really can get a bit 'lazy' so give the above a good go.

If it is a recent phenomenon, go and get it checked out at the GP. Maybe get a referral to a neurologist

Agree about seeing a GP if its a recent change.

I use a website for pronounciaton - www.forvo.com - they usually have a few different variations in different accents.

I am a big reader and frequently have pronounciations wrong as Ive read a new word and not heard it spoken aloud - and if anyone corrects my pronounciation I thank them and say "oh must be because Ive only seen it written down". Some people like to be a bit sneery if you pronounce something incorrectly but I dont pay any attention to that.

On spelling, just use spell check. Everyone does. Lots of people have bad spelling.

    Hiya

    (1) IF a recent thing DEFINITELY go to your GP and explain .

    (2) IF it has mostly being the case, then please google NALA website and find a literacy scheme in your area. They will assess you in the first place, and then if you need or want lessons they are free.

I taught spelling etc for many years ; what seems terribly embarrassing to you is not at all unusual and any tutor will show you respect an encouragement
