was down visiting the home-house this evening and noticed an estate agent putting up a sign for a few acres for sale (right in the old village where i grew up_

i would know the man who's selling the land from the olden days and he is not the type to sell land,

was also chatiing to another old neighbour last year and he warned me not to wander onto the same land " said there's sinkholes opening up there that swallowed a few livestock"

which i blelieve as i know thaere are some undergroung springs/caves linked up over the couple of miles radius

    Strange question but....

Do bulls turn cross in your area?

I sell bulls to a man and he will only ever keep them for 1 season because he claims bulls in his area turn very sour. Claims there are sinkholes and underground caves and that echos have the bulls bawling and getting cross...

    I dunno...

The man may have decided to sell the few acres in order to fund his retirement/lifestyle etc instead of leaving it to relatives after his time. The could be a new development plan for the village and he is seizing the opportunity!

I've loads of sinkholes (slugadors around here)especially after the flooding in the last winter/spring,a sign of great drainage and land, just keep filling them in

    strange question indeed

but i would have to say any animals i seen on that land are stone mad

i seen a display there a few weeks back with 3 men, 2 on foot and 1 on a quad trying to get 20 bullocks into a crush/pen,

they gave up in the end

Ah now, in all fairness you cannot judge anything by that.
I spent a good half hour late yesterday evening (after spending the day on the boat fishing) chasing Daisy our JEx pet cow, her calf and the other 2 calves that she is rearing back into the paddock behind the house. I'm sure if anyone saw me they would have thought that I was deranged considering the expletives and threats that I shouted at them.

A quad would probably drive the quietest of cattle mad if they weren't used to it .

Had a similar experience with 2 bulls last week, walked away giving out and they followed me out of the gate

Years ago I sold a quiet 3 year old pbr stock bull to a suckler farmer in Meath. He phoned me within the week saying that the bull was roaring his head off all day, every day. I had bred and showed the bull and I could stand over him so I was surprised to get the call. I drove to the man's place with the trailer and was prepared to take the bull back and refund his money - he was a really good bull and very well bred. When I walked out into the field of sucklers I could hear the bull roaring and also the echo in the distance. I pointed it out to the farmer and he admitted that it was first time keeping a bull as he used to use AI. I think the drumlin hills of North Meath were the problem.
Anyway the bull settled down and the farmer was happy.

We have the same problem with echoes on one part of the farm that slopes down into a valley. My grandparents used to often say they could never keep a bull on that side of the farm, the echo drives them mad. We have tried it a few times over the years and there seems to be some substance to it.

If you bred a bull on site then I reckon it wouldn't be a issue.

    thanks for all the replies

i'm going to go for it anyway

will be down that way this evening so will have a look around

will also call estate agent and get an idea of the price

i should have mentioned that this is an outfarm , well away from the owners homehouse,

that is probably the simple explanation for why it's being let go
