F10 onboard computer problem

    Hello,

    Please, guys, I need your help. I hope you will understand about what I am talking.
    I have Bmw 520d 2010 model. Problem is when I start engine and panel computer starts to load..I can see bmw logo and in a minute screen became black screen. (stop working). Time from time is working, but now usally is not. Maybe someone had this problem and solve it and now could help me and recommend? Because I know in my country there is people who could do it in a few a hour and cheap.

    In this forum you have to do the work yourself, even cheaper :D
    Di you try googling the issue, seems to be a few hits on various bmw forums.

    When it's black try pointing a light source at it, can you see anything? It's possible it's just the screen rather than the computer.

    I had a less consistent version of your issue, as in, a few times last winter the idrive system would reboot randomly and load into what seemed like a version of the software which was different to what should be on my car. I took it to BMW and they diagnosed a faulty head unit and a rough estimate to replace would be in the region of €1200.

    Of course, yours could be a bit simpler and be just an issue with the backlight on the screen.

    Maybe try Mick at http://www.germaniks.com for advice. He's pretty good on this stuff. You're probably going to need to reprogramme it if you're lucky (was a problem on earlier units. Otherwise look for a used on on adverts.ie, but again that will need to be programmed to your car (again ask Mick). In the meantime, you can try a reset of your i-drive. Press and hold the mute/volume button for 25 to 30 seconds and it should reset.
