I plan on getting the post office currency card, but i presume I'm going to need cash as well for an upcoming holiday to the US. I have have 2k in euro, so what's a reasonable amount of cash to bring for a week and what should i put on the card. Do they work everywhere you go?

I would only ever have $100 in cash on me. Used mostly for taxis and tips

Yep, deffo have cash for tips- Americans are very passionate about this - to the point of becoming exceptionally annoying. Thank Hod we don't have a tip culture in Ireland.
Would bring a few hundred cash - maybe 300-500 cash

ATM withdrawals these days tend to carry a flat fee followed by (extremely close to) the live exchange rate, there is no "commission". Just withdraw the max allowed amount at the ATM when you are there. In terms of convenience and value for money you cannot do any better. If it's a week-long holiday all the work you are doing now will save you about 5 euro. Enjoy your holiday and don't worry about it.

Anywhere that accepts Mastercard should accept the post office card.

When I go to that states I bring at least $500 in cash and have two different cards (One debit and credit card for emergencies). For a week $500 cash should be fine, I usually bring this amount for two weeks but will usually get some extra cash when I'm there.

You need to tip for nearly everything so having cash is very handy.
For restaurants, hotel, shopping etc use your card and for beer, snacks, tourist attractions use cash.

    Enjoy :pac:

What about tipping workers at the airport in America when you get food at the airport? I wasn't quite sure the last time i went.

Depends on the restaurant, something like Maccy D's then no tip required. But for anything slightly more up market there is an expectation to Tip.

I'm going to shop in walmart, screw tipping. Eat out for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You'll be screwed with tips. I'm very stingy.

Be careful with their notes. All the same size and colour. You could hand over a hundred and get the change of a twenty (heard of an unscrupulous taxi driver doing that before).

I don't plan on getting taxis either. I'm getting the bus or train to and from places. Yeah, I'm really cheap but if i can save a bit, i would.

I understand your fustration with the tipping, i hate it too. But just be aware there is no minimum wage in the US, people who work in services can sometimes get paid very little, getting paid $2 an hour to be a waitor wouldn't be unusual so they very much rely on tips to survive.

Usually food is a little bit cheaper there so paying $10 for a decent lunch and tipping $2 isn't that bad really. :)
