    Hi all,

What's the Irish stamp collecting scene like ?

Any good active associations / clubs ?

Is the Irish Stamp Exhibition (Stampa) any good ?

Stampa is a must go to if your into your stamps. I go every year since i started collecting. The teachers club on 36 Parnell square Dublin 1 run a stamp collecting club.
You should open a an post collectors account for all the new issues that come out they will send you out the information on a leaflet called the collector it will include description, prices & dates of new issues that will be coming out. You can have them delivered to your door if you like hope this helps!!!

I generally specialise in Irish stamps

I'm not keen on trying to accumlate every new Irish stamp that now comes out in ever increasing volumes, but I'm going to check out Stampa this year. Thanks

I'm not keen on trying to accumlate every new Irish stamp that now comes out in ever increasing volumes, ( I think in recent years Irish stamps are all about quantitiy, with very little thought, effort, or quality behind the issues ) but I'm going to check out Stampa this year. Thanks.

I can understand what you mean there, but i also feel personally it's best to get the stamps as they come out rather than have to go back on them & pay more than the face value if you get me! what do you normally collect ? i'd be more looking at the quality of the stamps rather than the quantity. There are a few good dealers around Ireland that might be able to help with your collecting

Irish wise I confine it to everything pre 2000. (But each to their own of course, that's the beauty of stamp collecting)
After that worldwide really, but more topical subjects that countries s as such.

I'm guessing from your original post you have allot to cover if i am not mistaken ? where would you usually get your stamps from do you mind me asking ?

Ebay mostly, which like anything else can be hit and miss. Yourself ?

I'd be careful if buying over internet sites like eBay! due to me buying certain stamps that i need to be careful. I'd buy at fairs , Dealers , An post , I'm always on the look out for what i need. have you many years covered ?

I have an almost complete mint collection of commemoratives from 1922 onwards. I have quite a lot of duplicates too if you were interested in swapping

What would be a reputable dealer/fair to bring a stamp collection for valuation?
