I have the i5 version of this and its a good machine. I got the i5 version from laptops direct for 400 euro :D The full HD screen looks really really nice and its a big improvement from my old dull screen I had in my HP laptop.

This machine would be really good for office/home/browsing use and at this price its a really good bargain.

edit: Actually this version doesn't come with a full HD I didn't read it correctly :( It is still a good bargain but not as good as I first thought.

By no means a bargain, just a case of you get what you pay for. Very low end processor.

It doesn't even stand out against the P6100 that was offered on entry level laptops back in 2010.
And there's a good chance you could upgrade that 2010 laptop to an i3 or i5.

Newer entry level processors aren't more powerful, they just use less electricity. So better battery life and "Significantly lower annual home energy cost" of ... $7 and I'd be reasonably sure that's a lot less than the energy costs in making a new laptop.

It is a low end processor for sure, but this machine is a budget machine.

This processor will be perfectly okay for someone who wants to surf the internet, emails, Microsoft Office etc. The cpu benchmarks nearly 2k

Sure the cpu isn't anywhere near top end but it will do fine for an everyday user.

That doesn't change the fact that it's a low end processor?

The point was that it's not a bargain, it's just the average price for a machine of this spec.

    Nope, not a prayer.

All soldered in. These days you are lucky if there's even a second memory slot in anything under €500

My 2010 laptop now has 8GB ram , an i5 , an SSD and a second hard drive in the DVD bay. By rights I should have bought two new laptops since, but because the makers focus is on portability rather than performance I just haven't been able to justify a new laptop. Shooting themselves in the foot as tablets have won on portability.

If you need a new laptop for very light use then today's entry level offerings are suitable. But if you want to replace an existing laptop then think long and hard because if you can upgrade the RAM, CPU or put in an SSD then you may get the performance gain and still save enough money to buy a decent tablet or even a 40" TV.

Sadly look again, under the benchmark you can see single core rating is 546, making it slower then the AMD e-300 (shudder) for a lot of tasks

I'd buy a second hand lenovo x220 (portable) or t420s (dvd) off donedeal/ebay, before the windows 10 upgrade runs out

About right*. Would take many decades to make the energy saving worth your while :D

*Let's say it saves 33% on power, so going from say 15W to 10W. And say you use the laptop every day, for 3 hours

You will use €18 of electricity per year with the new laptop vs €26 with the old one...

Surely the yoke is worth £219.99 though!

Any new laptop for under €300 is a bargain in my eyes and at least this one doesn't have a celeron processor.

    Which Celeron?

    Intel Celeron 2970M @ 2.20GHz CPU marks 2,416
    Intel Pentium N3700 @ 1.60GHz CPU marks 1,905

Its an ok price for a cheap budget laptop.
