I was stopped this evening driving with no L plates, the guard told me this is a fine but no penalty points. When I got home I googled it and it looks like two penalty points and I can't find how much the fine is. Can anybody fill me in?

Thank you, I was thinking €1,000 so that's a relief, I wasn't unaccompanied thank god!

Open letter to the three friendly new immigrants who saw me getting into my car at Mullaghmore and asked what the N plates were... this is what happens if you are caught driving without L plates like you said you were planning to do after you got your provisional, folks. Don't tell me I never told you so, then or now. Ugh.

Christ, they asked me what my N plates were for, and I told them about the N and L thing; they asked me what it took to get a provisional license, then said blithely, "Oh, we won't put the L plates on, then." My (Irish) husband and I just sort of looked at each other. And I'm the ass? Seriously?

Any reason you were driving without L plates in the first place?

I must have been half asleep as I never added there are points also applied for the offence.

Points of 2 for each offence or if convicted in court 4

Look up rsa.ie penalty point offences.

This thread is not about you. The post you quoted would have been in reference to the OP.

Thanks for clarifying. The post that asked that was immediately below mine. It did not quote the post you think it was responding to (incidentally, I wonder how you knew).

The OP is the only poster in this thread who drove without L plates.
