    Hi all,

I have an Astra J elite from 2012 no problems until now.

Firstly I keep getting an Alert that my boot is open "rear access open" this goes away after a few seconds... It also sets off the alarm every now and then which is rather annoying.

I've also noticed my rear wiper and and rear window washer isn't working either.

All my lights and break lights are working fine.

Any idea what this might be ?

A good guess would be a trapped or broken wiring loom somewhere in the boot opening mechanism or hinges.

I would guess that the wiper and washer won't work if it senses that the boot is open.

Thanks I'll take a look tomorrow when it's bright.

Also my warranty on the car expired yesterday (10th of June)

I logged the fault with my Opel dealer last Monday but they can not fit me in until next Monday.

Will I still be covered by warranty since I reported the issue within the warranty period ?

Ideally I'd like to fix this issue myself.

If the fault was logged with them last week then it should be covered under warranty, it would be bad form if they didn't. However going at it yourself might not be a good idea if they are going to be looking at it. That could void your warranty.

Good point. I'll wait till they take it in on Monday and see what they say. I'm hoping they'll honour the warranty.

It's one of the biggest Opel dealers in Cork so I hope they honour it.

They have no choice but to honour it once you reported it within warranty period regardless of what they say.

Is likely you will need a new boot lock or else wiring has been damaged at hing location as said.

Sounds like an issue with the wiring loom at the flexible joint going into the boot hatch. Have a look around where the hinges are and see if there's any damage to the rubber boot over the wiring, or any corrosion there. The majority of the lights are not on the hatch, so would be unaffected by a wiring issue there

Had a look this morning and didn't get a warning about the boot being open when I started up the car.

I then checked the wiper and rear water washer and they seem to be working now again.

The issue will certainly return in a few days which is strange.

What way is the wiring on these for the boot electrics? Ford's of the early 2000's had hard contacts that sometimes gave bother as opposed to a wiring harness. If it's intermittent, then it's electrical contacts. Could be a contact inside the boot lock mechanism
