My car is due a NCT in February 2017. I plan to try get an early NCT date, hopefully late November of this year. My car is a '07 so I was wondering if I get it NCT'd November 2016 would that mean I'd escape having to get it done yearly as I'd be still in 2016 and car is only 9yrs old then and not 10yrs old until Feb 2017. In return should my next NCT date be Nov 2018 or would they say Feb 2018???

Any help on above matter is greatly appreciated

If you get it done over 90 days before it's due you will get 2 years NCT so if you got it done in October 2016 your NCT would be then due in Oct 2018.

Just be sure you give yourself enough time to get anything fixed if it was too fail so it is still less the 9 years 9 months because after this is when they only give 1 year.

Or would that be Feb 2018, Feb when it would have ran out ,don't you get the extra 3 months for taking it in early ?

Vehicle owners who wish to present their vehicle for inspection earlier than 90 days before their NCT due date will now be allowed to do so.
Where this happens the vehicle will receive a 2 year (or 1 year depending on the age of the vehicle) certificate duration from the date it passes the test.
To qualify for Voluntary Early Testing the vehicle must PASS the NCT prior to the 90 days before its test due date
Vehicles presenting for their first NCT at 4 years will be subject to the same rules as any other aged vehicles. Note this is a change from the rule which allowed vehicles presenting for their first test at 4 years to be presented up to 6 months (180 days) early.
Vehicles presenting for an NCT younger than 2 years can be tested (these vehicles will not receive a certificate but will receive a vehicle inspection report) and their next NCT due date will remain the 4th anniversary of the first date of registration.
Vehicles aged between 2 and 4 years will receive a certificate valid for 2 years to the anniversary of the successful test, if tested more than 90 days in advance of the 4th anniversary of first registration.
Vehicles tested on-time (i.e. within 90 days of the test due date or its tenth anniversary test) or late remain unaffected by this change. and a certificate for the duration of 1 year will be issued from the current NCT expiry date

    Correct.
In case anyone doubts it - I got this done on a 06 car due for nct in late September. Did it early June (>90 days) and my new nct date is June 2018. Not Sept 2017 as it would have been if I left it another while to go for nct.

Flew through the nct, emissions and imbalances etc like a much younger car. Pity it will be a weapon of mass destruction insurance wise within 5 years.

Didnt know that, good to know for my next nct due early jan 2018, so if i take it in Sep 2017 and get pass it will be due next Sep 2019 rather then Jan 2019 if i took it in jan 2018.

Just as well I read this thread I remember my last nct in 2015 I definitely did it early to get the longer nct.

Must have been a backlog back then so they introduced early bookings to reduce waiting times

Yes exactly, just make sure you give yourself enough time to sort any issues as it has to pass 90 days before due date, if there's a retest even for a visual fail like a blown bulb and it's under 90 days you won't get the 2 years.
