Best rate guaranteed

Got a quick rant for the Gibson hotel! I was looking to book a night for November. I checked on Friday to get an idea of prices and found a comparison site with a room and breakfast for €157. A great price for a lovely hotel. Thought I'd check the Gibson's website to see if they had any deals. The prices offered where about €25 more, fair enough except they had in bold letters "BEST PRICE GUARANTEED". I called their reservation department to see could they price match the €157 rate or do they refund the difference if I book online with them. The woman on the phone, who said she was the reservations manager told me that they don't price match and couldn't even explain how their more expensive room was the best price! Just a rant really and a warning to not believe everything you read on reputable hotels websites. Still booked the room and am looking forward to staying there so no real winners or losers

'Best price guaranteed' is a meaningless sales slogan, I really can't see why you got upset when it proved to be a load of hot air.

Generally if you see best price guaranteed in retail it means a price match, look at Curry's or Argos for example. Even hotels can be competitive with giving good deals direct, so its not a meaningless slogan.
I was surprised a reputable hotel would be so unhelpful or uninterested in taking a booking directly when I contacted them and was highlighting the fact.
