Him I'm just after turning 17 and was wondering how much 2.0 sdi caddy insurance would be? I know it won't be a rocket ship or have half the power as the tdi but I'm still in school and am working when I finish school at 3:30! I want to know will it be v expensive or not much cause she's sdi as I got a quote for 105bhp tdi and it was mad! I will also be going under my mother! Any advice? :)

Best of luck getting any insurance company to cover a 17 year old male on a van under their mother's policy. Also insurance companies are well used to attempts at fronting where young drivers get a parent to be the policy holder in order to get cheaper cover, despite not being the main driver. These days they tend to just load whoever is the higher risk on the policy irrespective of whether you are the policy holder or not.

Depends on gender and age and if passed test or learning - most insurance companies have calculators on their websites to give a quote - probably most accurate way of doing it 😉

You'd be extremely lucky if it didn't.

So Phone them......and be prepared for a lot of "Sorry, we cannot provide you with a quote".
Anything South of 3 Grand, go for it.
The absurdly high quotes and the refusals are not your fault, my fault, or the fault of boards.ie. They are simply the Insurance companies loading young drivers to recoup losses in other fields.
If you want to complain about this (and you should) I would annoy the sh1te out of all your local TD's. It's time the Government actually did a bit of Governing on this issue.

It's a joke like my mother has the car a year and just because I'm a learner I haven't the "right" to pay low insurance she'll be the main driver on the policy she's only 103bhp aswell

Even if she had a Yaris for the last year it would still be a similar story.
It's not the Car, it's the young Driver with a Learner Permit.

They do actually! I'm named on a Ford Focus 1.6tdci focus on my mothers policy

It's a pain like cause last year it wasn't bad for learners as most of my older friends got 1.9tdi Audi A4 under there mothers and there insurance only came to 2500 And them cars were 110bhp

By the way, does your Mother still have the VW Caddy you mentioned here....

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=99889248 ???

I've no problem with people asking genuine questions, but what you are asking about is known as "Fronting" (I'm sure you are more than aware of this fact) and this is something the Insurers are well aware of. Hence the refusal to quote online.
From looking at your other posts the roads of West Cork must be teeming with Felt-spec A4's all apparently owned (and insured) by middle-aged women ;).
