    What age is the house?
What type of house (bungalow, dormer, 2 storey etc)?
What is the wall make-up, in detail from inside to outside?
Why are you considering pumping the walls (this is not a stupid question!)?

It was built in 2000.Dormer type.Usual block and aeroboard at the time.
I notice a bit of dampness in the inside of one of the walls of a bedroom.Just think extra aeroboard would improve the dampness and heat retention in the inside of the house.

I'm regularly amazed at the number of people who seek advice and when asked for basic information about the query, either ignore the clarification questions completely or reply in a fashion as if the questions don't matter.

    I disagree.

Its not a question of technical vocab/ability.

We don't know what the external finish is, how wide the cavity, how wide the insulation, thickness of outer and inner leafs and what the internal finish is.

If he doesn't know that then he will not get the right solution.

We have little insight as to the why.

The OP is now suggesting pumping more aeroboard......

    As for his original post

Sounds like perhaps: I will just throw this out there and let others do the work, based on incomplete information, as I can't be orsed..

As for the throw-away comment re the damp patch, this could be due to a wide range of issues, starting with ventilation problems

To use some of your own words im amazed that a simple question that i posted looking for friendly advice can be dominated by a person with posible anger management issues. You seem to know what your talking about probably in the trade maybe but with that attitude i cant imagine you getting repeat trade or word of mouth work with that attitude.Im sure there is nice decent people out there willing to offer there experiences who dont think every one is stupid if they dont have the super knowledge our friend here has.Its prob best to stop this thread as it wasnt meant to be a thread to make negetive remarks about people we dont know.

Alright lads - before someone loses the cool or before someone starts insinuating something about someone's mother .....

    Hi OP,

There are a number of different types of insulation that can be retrofitted and even within the subset of pumping a wall there are different things that can be done. But in order to give you advice anybody is going to need to know what type of walls and house you have and a general idea of the age also helps because it allows people who are familiar with these things to gauge the quality of construction.

But - even before you start insulating it is possible that the problem you want to solve won't be solved by what you are doing .... the "dampness" you mention is a good example. Extra insulation rarely solves something like this in a house of your age and even when it does it's combined with some other measures such as ventilation etc.

So when you post a fairly short - going to pump my walls lads, what'll I stick in them - it can rub people a little the wrong way because they spend a lot of their time correcting issues that are caused by people just doing things without thinking them through.

I sometimes feel this place can feel a little "cliquey" to newcomers because the regs see the same type of post very regularly and get dismayed at having to rehash the same "basic" advice again and again. And in some cases (not this one I might add) they can end up arguing with someone who thinks what they heard down the pub is gospel!

I have been guilty of this myself and bearing in mind a well known thread elsewhere on boards at the moment I said I'd try to be the voice of reason here!

So apologies for the long winded post. How about the following:

OP can you tell us more about this dampness problem you are having and post some pictures. Maybe we can help you diagnose the problem and then help you pick a good solution.
