Does anyone know if you have to resit the provisional test (dtt) if your provisional licence has been expired for over 5 years ?

Im not sure where to check for this info, and a mate told me you have to resit ?

I believe this is correct. If it has been expired for 5 years you start from scratch.

This is true, assuming the OP is talking about only hold a B permit and letting it slide for 5+years.

There are a couple of exceptions, for example, such as those that maybe have full B licences and had A permit in the past but it's all very subjective.

Yeah its just the B permit, expired since 2008. Is it written in stone that i must retake the test ?, Say i filled in the provisional renewal form, got the required medical along with the renewal fee and just sent it all in. worth the chance or wasting my time ?

If you haven't held any learner or full categories at all since 2008 then there's definitely no chance of avoiding. It will be the full formal process I'm afraid. You must also go to the NDLS centre in person.

You will also have to do the 12 EDT lessons and wait at least 6 months after the issuing of the license before you can do the driving test

The 12 lessons have to be done before the Full Licence Test can be taken, not the Provisional, right ?

You're right. The learner permit exists to facilitate your learning, including taking the EDT lessons. As soon as you have taken your theory test, you can bring the other necessary documentation to the NDLS for your permit so you can take your EDT's. After that, you can take your test.
