    Hi all,

Ive read a few threads about this being a common enough issue.

The boot catch no longer locks, and the back window wiper no longer works pointing to a need for a new lock mechanism.

Can anyone recommend where to source this ?

Ive tried online, garages & motor factors.

    Thanks in advance

Any VW dealer will be able to supply one. They are pretty cheap IIRC.

I wouldn't be so sure about your diagnosis though so make sure you definitely need the lock before you buy it.

Hi George, thanks for the reply !

Ive read a few threads & viewed a few videos regarding doing the DIY job. I'd be capable of removing & replacing but not able to diagnose it.
I was stuck between giving it to my local guy with the cost of diagnosing then another day spent sourcing the part - just spooked me when no where seemed to stock them

In the grand scheme of things im replacing the car in the next 4 weeks and will be trading it in - do you reckon its best to fix it if cheap (keeping in mind someone still has to assess it & then replace) or just let the garage deal with it and take a few quid hit on the trade in ?

    Thanks again

    Chris

If you are trading the car in then the garage may not even notice the problem. We traded in a 2007 Golf last week and I only realised the following day that the boot wouldn't open from the outside.

Just to be clear, when you say the boot won't lock, do you mean it won't close at all or just that it doesn't lock with the rest of the doors on the central locking?

Unfortunately its quite noticeable - i can use a screwdriver to push the lock across where it would usually 'lock' into place but it doesnt seem to. It feels as if the lock is dead for want of a better term. Doesnt close at all.

At current the boot is cable tied shut so certainly not a long term or un-noticeable problem !

That will be the latch in that case, so you are safe enough to order one and replace it.
