Fire Alarm for Attic Conversion

    Hi,

Having the attic converted at the moment and saw that there was no fire alarm on the ceiling of the new hall. They kept the existing fire alarm on the first floor.

The conversion is for non-habitable space but it will have guests sleeping in it from time to time so it seems sensible to have a fire alarm. We also do not want any difficulties should we sell the house in the future.

Are we required to have a mains powered fire alarm mounted?

    Thanks

    TDM

There should be a smoke alarm on the new landing linked to the existing alarms, it woud be a good idea to fit one in the new attic room as well.

If you let people sleep in it, then it is habitable. If it's accessible, then it's habitable imo.

TGD Part B defines a storey as to include storage.

You should have mains power smoke detection at attic landing linked back to the main house, I would also look a detector into the attic room. You should then also have a fire door into the attic room andretrofit self closers to the other doors in the house.
