It says GREEN BAG but 'somehow' the R and the N were so very accidentally obscured.

I do have to smile wryly at this getting past the Dept of Education, the same dunderheads who enforce religion and Irish as major parts of the school day despite being of nil educational value.

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

    Am I missing something here?

What does a poster for RENUA amongst a pile of rubbish got anything to do with your post?

So what your actually saying is that that the Irish language has no cultural value to yourself? Just say that then. Don't be making stuff up about "GEE BAGS"

Right, this has become a lot weirder than expected.

Somehow I ended up with two attachments on different posts with the same filename, it's edited and should be OK now. :o

Maybe the character in the book has an interest in great eastern ecology?

    Ned Gerblansky in the background

IIRC the name of the book is "GG Goes Shopping" and the publisher is one of the usual. Not Folens though, he was a Nazi on the run who found a safe haven in Ireland post-war (true story)

Because if you are doing reading with your child, and the child reads the picture and says "What's kind of bag is a gee bag?" that wouldn't be good

The educational system maybe trying to subliminally eradicate unmannerly teenage slang words such as "gee bag" by incorporating them into early educational books making them totally uncool in later life

Well maybe just explain it's supposed to say green bag. The simplest solution is always the best

Looking at the bag behind it - I see the Sh... is also obscured by the bag handle.

Maybe the illustrator was annoyed at someone? ☺

    A twat.

The feminine adj. of a prick..

Edit to add: think it's typical Irish vernacular

Sure it's an Olympic event nearly here on boards, bringing religion, and how persecuted people feel by it, into the most obscure minutiae of daily life,
