We have an old Sky Box that will be upgraded soon but there are 2 programmes on the box I really want to keep. How can I transfer them off the box?

SCART lead into a DVD recorder is probably the best you'll be able to do.
Could also use a USB video importer.

Are the programmes anything that could be downloaded online?

Pretty sure the RTE Website doesn't have the Six One News from Dec 2009 with my father being interviewed!

If the programmes are from an unencrypted channel they can be ripped to a PC.

You can also transfer all programmes to a sky+hd box, only works if you are keeping the same account+viewing card as encrypted recordings are linked to card.

access to the HDD from the box is needed, SD boxes are easy enough to get disk out of, the newer HD boxes are a bit of a faff.

    2 progs to do this

http://www.skycopyplus.co.uk/ only supports SD boxes and extract+ prog to rip from boxes

http://www.ph-mb.com/products/expvr/about transfer SD-HD box, merge disks, back-up HD, etc.

Take the hard disk out and transfer them to a pc. I did this before years ago but only works if they aren't protected. RTÉ news might be OK
