Poster paint on canvas

Does poster paint work OK on canvas? I'm a primary school teacher and don't have enough money to spend on acrylic paints for a class of 30. I've used oil and acrylic on canvas before but never used poster paint. Any one have any advice? Thanks ðŸ˜Š
