The amount of hard luck stories on Irish papers must be at an all time high. The indo in particular seem to print any idiots mistakes as a tragedy. It usually comes down to looking /begging for money

Everything in the Indo is a tragedy, or hilarious, or amazing or unbelievable or whatever other hyperbolic term they can come up with. The vast vast majority of these stories are very underwhelming.

Don't talk to me about tragedy OP, the handlebars on my racing bike are all bent and a c*** to try and straighten them.

Crowd funding is where it's at. You can get free money to come home for Funerals and everything. Then go back and continue your holiday.

Liveline trades in stupidity and misery, the LLS always has one misery slot. This crap sells as presumably we are meant to empathise while thanking a deity that it didn't happen to us.

Credit cards are protected, she used a debit card I think.

Holiday insurance is pretty much worthless

There are genuine hard luck stories and there are those who expect the state to do every thing for them and are shocked when things don't go their way.
The woman with the kids who ran to the papers because she was kicked out of her hostel because she went on holidays to Spain.
The people who arrived in south Dublin and demanded housing and sued the council.
The couple tallaght who had never worked, were not looking for a job but were surprised when they could no longer afford the rent.
A lot of people have forgotten how to look after them selves and run to the press when they don't get what they want and distract from the genuine cases.

Yes, when a media case just shows one side of the story and the other side is somewhere like e.g. a government department or company, which is not given right of reply or cannot comment on an individual case (as this would breach data protection law) I would be very hesitant to take every facet of the story at face value.

Yer wan a couple of years back who was sleeping in her car with her 3 or 4 young kids because she was "homeless", turns out she'd turned down a bunch of accommodation that she was offered by the council because it was all outside of Dublin.

There's a poor tourist lad up at Heuston, in a wheelchair, gets mugged and all his cash and passport, tickets etc. stolen very frequently, poor sod.

This one in particular grinds my gears.
