They all have a pretty serious fanboi following.

People will mention rust on the MX5 and head gasket issues in the TF.

I think it's one of these things that can't be decided for sure and will depend on what you expect/want, in my opinion:

If you want the ultimate (well... in that range ;) ) driving machine, the mx-5.

If you want something a tad more comfortable, the MG.

If you want something reliable, the MR2.

What's the budget? What about a slightly left field option of a S2000?

i was thinking a max of 3-4k, so s2000, which i would ****ing love is out :(

It's just as a summer car like, have the old (not so) reliable 335 for daily driving like, but a cheapish runaround migt be fun :)

MX-5 is easily the best all rounder of that bunch but it will also be most expensive to buy.

MG-TF will probably be the cheapest to buy if you can find a good one. I think you can get a modified HG and coolant system for them if not already done. 3k would get you a very good example. Seems to be a bit of work done on this one:

I'd put the MG as the least desirable of those with the Mazda first.

I can only advise that you drive a couple of examples of all 3. The MR2 is the best drive (haven't driven the MG though) but with the MR2 you have no boot, literally none. So if you need practicality one of the other 2 would be better.

If you're tall the MX-5 isn't for you probably. I know I don't fit in them properly anyway! You do get a proper boot though and probably is the easiest to live with as your only car.

As I said, I haven't driven an MG TF so someone else might help you there! I can't stress enough though to drive all three and see what's best for you.

My first car was an MG TF 160 certainly the best looking of the bunch had two years hassle free motoring with it and certainly enjoyed my time with it.
