Limericks motor trade was badly effected by the recession with almost all franchises up for grabs over the bad years . Good to see then Lyons of Limerick who had ben selling JLR from a prefab showroom opposite their Ford showroom for a few years , are in the middle of building a new showroom for the brands . It rights beside the Ford showroom , assume as Volvo are a similar brand they want to keep the brands away from each other as m7uch as possible.

The F pace Jaguar is selling very well in UK , hopefully it does well here also but the 4 cyl. diesel engine is supposed to be noisy even for a diesel !

Goochy, what do you be at boy? These "press release" posts you come up with every now and then are a bit weird.

Volvo Cars was part of the Premier Automotive Group within Ford until 2010, IIRC. The Drive Motor Group down here, which went wallop in 2008, sold JLR alongside Ford, Volvo and Mazda marques. Good news about Lyons - that's Limerick Cit-AAAHH.

There was an unoccupied former Toyota glass palace right across the road ready to go until about 8 months ago. Would have been very swanky for Jaguar or Audi (who opened a temporary showroom in Singland Motors). Now the glass palace is occupied by DFS furniture.

There are plenty of people like myself interested in the motor trade often more than the cars themselves so no apologies !

Audi did a good job with singland premises so is it definitely only temporary ? I find its not as bland looking as most Audi dealerships .

that DFS premises isn't really suited to furniture - 3 floors fairly small floors and huge outdoor area that could never be filled up by customers.

Singland Motors was only temporary to my knowledge. And having been in DFS it's perfectly fine as a furniture store.

Keith Lyons (Ken's son) is the Land Rover guy.

Would have thought the high value of sterling and LR's reliability problems would have meant there wasn't much profit on them and that theres lots of warranty work involved but seems Land Rover is a brand in demand by dealerships and the public here. The JLR dealer here in Cork shares showrooms with other brands and must not give trade in deals as a lot of JLR models are bought from other dealers around the country.

Lyons seem to do well selling Volvo and are one of the few solus showrooms around .

saw an interesting ex army Lr DEFENDER in their service area recently hard to tell if from Ni or Middle east work.

Frank Hogans Mercedes showrooms / forecourt is very much overshadowed by the Audi , Bmw and soon JLR dealerships , he was ahead of his time as a Mercedes dealer for many years but hasn't moved with the times.

About a month ago the euro was worth €0.81 to the pound this was the strongest the euro has since around October 2014. Landrover have an excellent range which have been very desirable with long time hence demand. Dealer profit is not effected by manufacturers warranty, also Landrovers are now greatly improved in terms of their reliability.

That was (supposedly) the original choice for Limerick Audi, but it seems the lease was a bit steep at the time.

In completely unrelated news... I saw an mgbgt at lunch today and thought I had spotted another boardsie. It was 1974 though.

I got rid of the '78 about 4 years ago. Then I was going to reregister here with mini76, but sold that last year.
Might go with MX5-90 next :).

How is the building of New jag/ land rover showroom coming along ? Last time i was in limerick in april they said it was opening in summer but they hadnt even started ! Is it more or less right on top of Ford place as there didn't look like much space to build on area they had earmarked

Was at the car show at race course yesterday so swung by Lyons new JLR place afterwards , showrooms look same as the other new JLR showrooms , a bit bland.

However the part of site they built new showrooms is very strange , what were they thinking ? right on top almost of Ford showrooms and only visable when you are coming out of limerick towards Tipperary.
The Ford showrooms are way too small for such a large dealer , are they planning to demolish and build elsewhere on site ? This would explain why they built where they did.

As their new JLR showrooms are right at entrance and beside Ford showrooms , there is no forecourt to display their new and used JLR stock so just as in past these vehicles are just lumbered together with all the Fords etc. - why would you build new showrooms and then to this ?

Conlans built their new JLR showrooms beside their BMW place so don't see why Lyons didn't build beside Volvo.

It's be nice if they were helpful. Called in today with a recall issue that caused me to break down. Was told they can't see the car for two weeks, despite being told a few days ago they'd see it this wk! I was never notified of the recall issue. Plus they were less than helpful when I rang to say I was outside (very prickly girl at the desk, zero help) and didn't want to turn off the car cause it wouldn't start again (fan belt tensioner gone, sho couldn't use electric handbrake). So now they have to check the car cause it's not running before they carry out the recall work. This, despite the fact that the recall issue is the reason the car won't start! I'll not drive back in there again. Called in a last year to buy a car for the missus. Didn't have anything suitable at the time, Thank f*** for that.

are they planning on building a new Ford showroom elsewhere on the site ? if not they should be shot for positioning JLR showroom virtually on top of it - they have a huge yard so it makes little sense - surprising when they got it right with their Volvo dealership
