Hey, there's a link to another boards thread.

It's the Hanley Centre. Basically you stand around all day, trying to convince people to buy scratch cards for the Hanley Centre. a few friends have done it in the past. There is no set wage. you get one euro for each scratch card you sell.

On good days, the two friends that did it in Dublin City Centre made €20-25 for the entire day.

    Welcome to Boards.

This is better suited to the Work & Jobs forum than Dublin County North so I've moved it over.

Yeah I worked for the Hanley Centre the summer after my leaving cert when it was too late to find any other summer jobs. I lasted a day and a bit.

There are a small amount of people who seem to be good at it...usually the very attractive and incredibly confident young people who have no problems annoying people who are going about their shopping/lunchbreaks/commutes.

I'm not sure how it works these days**, but I think (this was about 13 years ago) back then it was commission only. I made €14 on the first day. Lasted an hour on the second day before packing it in. Didn't even go and collect my wages in the end, wouldn't have been worth my bus fare :pac:

**sorry just read Penny Tration's post above, so apparently it still works the same way! Not even legal presumably! Good luck to your son, but if I was him I'd be continuing on the job hunt.

It sounds absolutely dreadful. Get your son a proper job with pay by the hour.

Honestly it's a demeaning, soulless job. Do you live in Dublin? He'd be better off spending his day walking around town handing CVs in places. I've seen plenty of places with signs up looking for staff.

    Merchandising?

McCurrach are always looking for people. €9.25 p/h AFAIK.

Looks dodgy. Going by the link to the website on the other thread the website looks very unprofessional and if you click on the route planner tab it takes you to Augusta, USA

Agree with you on this, my son has sent out countless Cv, no word back on anything, I think you need to put yourself out there and it's no bother to any with plenty of confidence, or if your lucky enough to know someone with a business who could give him a couple of hours work, My son is doing one afternoon a week in the cancer shop as a volunteer, if nothing else he will gain work experience and something to add to his Cv, Good Luck

Thanks to all who responded. Update, he lasted the day and is now pounding the streets looking for a 'proper' job. Six started the day, three walked after a couple of hours, and of the other three only one was returning the following day (a non national). In total the kids (for no pay) sold scratch cards to the tune of 200e which was whipped from them as soon as 5pm came. Its an experience he wont be repeating. Again thanks for the

That's awful. I'd say they make a lot of money by not having to pay for people who just work for one day before throwing in the towel.

Best of luck to him finding another job.
