Got a text today from the local health centre saying our children have a centile assessment. All children under 6 have one apparently. What exactly is this test?

    What age is your child?
Usually when a baby/ child is 3 months, 7-9months, 2 yrs and 3 yrs old they visit the local public health nurse for a development check. Usually involves seeing are they meeting their milestone eg- walking talking etc.
Then their height/ weight is taken and put on a "centile chart" to see how they are doing.
    Eg: progressing ok

It compares your child's height etc to the range of heights for that age and ranks your child out of 100 peers. eg if a child's height is at the 20th centile he is as tall or taller than 20 out of 100 children his age. The average centile is 50. The tallest child would be at the 100th centile, the very smallest at the first. Hope that makes sense.
