You can try the breakers in the stickied thread on top of the forum - "Map of all Breakers/Salvage/Scrap Yards in Ireland"

Did the mechanic ask you to get an engine?

Yeah two mechanics had a look.they both said cheaper to get a secondhand one than fixing that one

Is that the 1.2L 3 cylinder engine? If so it's in Polos, Fabias and probably several other Volkswagen/Audi group cars.

Is this a known issue on these engines? To happen twice in 6 years is pretty extreme.

You'd have to wonder how cost effective it is to gamble on another engine... those 1.2's are notorious for issues.

Yeah polo engines are the same.could only find one for 1200.got the last one for 500.extremly unluckily I think that car is.put it up for sale as is.theres a lad comin today to look at it.think I'm better takin the loss and getting rid of it

Just the normal 1.2 petreol.no wasn't replaced.new engine had very low miles on it

I'd say fitting a new chain plus whatever associated parts would be a good preventive measure for you're planning on keeping the car.

This looks to be a common issue with the model. I have a seat Ibiza 2011, timing chain slipped in Decemebr 2013 and had just slipped again, 2.5 years later. Contact Seat Ireland directly and report the problem. Although the Internet is flooded with people saying they have issues with timing chain, seat Ireland are saying there is no issue. My car has been serviced regularly, put 900 euro into it in April and now have to foot a large bill again.
Has anyone ever heard of a timing chain slipping twice on a 5 year old car? I think not.
Wish I knew about this major fault with is car before I purchased it, I would have spent my money wisely.

Yeah it seems to be very common.seat don't want to know anything about it.contacted them the first time it went.i sold the car at a loss wit the bad engine.the lad that bought it was happy to put an olderengine in it which I wasn't.wouldnt touch a seat or vw again after all the trouble it gave me.it was a relief to get rid of it and would advise you to do the same

hahahahah, as a lie that's up there with "diesel is clean" and "of course our engines meet emissions specs".

Oh defo as soon as its repaired it's gone and will never touch a seat or vw again. Have been talking to my solicitor tho and he says there is a good case due to the amount of people on the Internet alone having issues, I'm not gonna let them go with this

I had a 2003 1.2 3cyl Ibiza and it was the worst car i ever owned luckily got the chain done in time but a host of other issues it went through sensors and coil packs like hot cakes.

Luck mine just slipped and didn't destroy the engine, but from what I've seen online the last few days this is a known issue with this car, wish I had known it too before I'd bought it. Can anyone tell me why the manufacture is getting away with having a car with obvious manufacturing failures on the market?

Because Irish people would crawl over hot coals and broken glass to beg for the chance to buy something from the VAG stable. The few who see the emperor's clothes for what they are are no great loss, there's 20 more who would never buy a mazda diesel because you have to not stop it during dpf regen, but will consider themselves blessed to pay out for p!ss poor engineering oil pumps, timing chains, valves as part of "normal" servicing etc.
