Separation questions

Hi all, I am separating from my partner, we are unmarried with 2 kids.
The mortgage of the house is under her name, I was paying the bills, food, insurance and so on for the last 6 years so our expenses were balanced.

My ex works part time, roughly around 18.5 or 19 hours a week, my questions are:

1- what kind of benefits can she claim? I would really appreciate a list so I can read on them on the citizeninfo website.
2- Is there any maintenance calculator that I can use?
3- Would I have to include her mortgage cost to the maintenance?
4- Since I have been living in the house, paying fees related to the house and so on, Can I claim anything on the house?

    Thanks.

    1. The most obvious benefit would be FIS. It is a straightforward enough application process.
    2. Between you, you need to document all expenses relating to the children (childcare, food, clothes, educational, medical, extracurricular etc) and pay approx half of the total. Obviously you need to see if you can reasonably afford that depending on what your new living expenses will be.
    3. Seek legal advice on this one
    4. Ditto legal advice. Although morally, it is her house and your childrens home. Unless she has substantial savings where is she going to get money to pay you for any 'claim'? Your contributions over the last few years have been 'rent' as such. You would not have been living cost free anywhere.

Yes, you do have a claim on part of the value of the house as you have been contributing for 6 years, 2 years if children in the relationship allows you to claim. You are well over that. You were not renting.

FIS is only for full time at 19 hours per week or 38 hours per fortnight. Your ex seems to come in just below that.
