Poor hotspot with new handset

So I use my Samsung as a home hotspot, up to 8 devices can connect and we've had no problems or complaints from the teenagers... I bought an Archos 55 Platinum in the airport yesterday and set it up, turned on the hotspot, and have had nothing but complaints from the kids saying it's really slow.. I'm not having any issues…

I bought an Archos 55 Platinum in the airport yesterday and set it up, turned on the hotspot, and have had nothing but complaints from the kids saying it's really slow.. I'm not having any issues using my iPad with it, it's a slight bit slower but nothing I couldn't put up with..
My question is are some phones better than other at providing hotspots and is there anything I can do to on the phone to improve hotspot..thank you folks!
