Just throwing out an idea. I hav a few texel ewe lambs who lambed down to a bleu d'maine ram. Would it be unwise to let up these lambs as ewes.
Thanks in advance for your replies.

let them run on a year and they will make great ewes if they lamb as ewe lambs they tend to have too many lambs and don't develop enough bone mass thus stunting them

They've lambed already. Would their ewe lambs make good ewes in time or should I wait until next year's crop of lambs to select future ewes? Apologies if the way I'm writing this is confusing.

There's no reason the genetics would be any different next year. The difference could be in how good a start the lambs get with ewe lambs for mothers. They could tend to not grow as well. I'd say look at them later in the year and see if you think they have the quality you want and are well grown enough.

Thanks for your reply, ya I'll assess them later in the year and make my decision then.

But if you lamb them as ewe lambs they'll be far better mothers next season than hoggets that are lambing for the first time

I think the op has already lambed them as ewe lambs and was asking about keeping the 2016 lambs as replacements even though their mothers were born in 2015.
