Travel/Flight compensation

Last Friday I was scheduled to travel with CityJet from Cork to London City airport at 4pm. The flight was delayed and eventually left Cork shortly after 10pm (6 hours late). It landed in London Southend and passengers were then brought to London City by bus (turns out you can't land in London City airport after 10.30pm). I was scheduled, had everything gone on time, to get trains to Kingston but that couldn't happen as trains had stopped given how late it was. I made alternative accommodation arrangements with a relative and instead made my way to Kingston on Saturday. On check in at the hotel, they charged me for the Friday night accommodation which I never used because of the flight issues. I understand this from their point of view.

Am I entitled to a refund or compensation here under the new EU travel regulations? If so, with whom do I apply for this and go about doing it?

Thanks in advance for help on this.
