Leaking cable

Felt engine started to overheat yesterday on way home. Pulled over, turned off engine and popped hood. Nothing obviously wrong though more heat than there should have been after a short distance. Drove home without major problems and parked the car for the night.

This morning popped the hood and started engine. A small black cable below the oil tank leaking what looks like water. Everything else (oil levels etc) looks alright. Turned off ignition, haven't moved car since.

Considering duct tape to hold leak til I get to a mechanic, distance some 5Ks. Any thoughts welcome.

You will have to post a picture. I'm trying to figure out why a small black cable coming from the oil tank would leak.

Would do if boards let me. Will post the answer once I get to a mechanic if all else fails.

If your car is overheating then then first thing you would check is your coolant ( water) level. If you notice a (water) leak this means you either have a windscreen water leak or a coolant leak. The leak could be comming from any part of the cooling plumbing, and this flows/drips to the lowest thing it can touch on the car. Leaks can be difficult to find 'cause of this. Usually with a coolant leak there is a pipe burst/ not connected properly, or radiator is rusted or punchered. :)

It was. I know what you're thinking, but there is definitely a leak. I can see water pumping out of a black cable/tube when the engine runs.

Thanks Lalababa. I'm 99 percent it's coolant, and I can actually see the leak when I run the engine with hood up. Just wondering if I can jerry rig with duct tape to get to garage, or will I have to get a tow.

What is the coolant level like? When you say you "felt" the car overheat did the temperature gauge indicate it was overheating?
