Underwear

I'm new to running in the last few months. Just wondering what underwear you wear under your gear. A good sports bra obviously for ladies. I find with the running shorts/leggings knicker lines really standout. I'm wearing just normal cotton underwear and a long top long enough to cover my butt.

On the knicker lines, it may surprise you to hear that people couldn't care less and are unlikely to be looking. If they are looking that's not what they're looking at ;) From a male perspective if I'm admiring a rear end that has the old VPL going on it doesn't affect my judgement in the slightest!
I usually wear lined shorts that aren't really designed to have any underwear underneath. Much more comfortable that way anyway.

I just wear my normal knickers. I don't really care about VPL. All I'm concerned about is comfort really.

VPL very last thing you would be thinking of when running. Sports bra way more important, and socks to. I'm in the club years, running with lots of women and it's not something that any mentions

I wear the shorts with built in pants too, but when I wear running tights or tight shorts I do wear knickers underneath -- I find the Penney's seam free trouser pants / briefs really good -- they don't ride up (and are probably relatively VPL free as they are seam-free, if you're self-conscious about VPL). Comfort is the main thing, and I find these Penney's ones and a pair of running underwear (kind of like really short trunks) that I got in Aldi to be the best.

A comfortable sports bra, a good pair of non cotton socks, and - ohmigod - NO KNICKERS

Yeh no I can't be dealing with knickers under shorts/leggings etc. Commando all the way. So much more comfortable.

I do Pilates as well as running, and I think an extra layer of clothing between me and whoever's on the mat behind me as we all arch and stretch etc etc is probably a good idea, hence the running underwear! :)

Cotton knickers from Penneys. They don't have the frilly elastic edging that others do so they don't chaff at the tops of the legs. Also they are fairly big as in they cover all of my bum and go up to my hips so there's no wedgies! As others have said VLP should be the least of your worries. However if you are showing some serious VPL then either your underwear or your running bottoms are too tight.

Cotton isn't a good thing to wear running, as it gets wet and doesn't wick away moisture.

I didn't think of seam free underwear in penneys. I'll have a look. I dont mind a little bit of VPL but what I normally wear has a very obvious seam.

I do Pilates also but it doesn't bother me there. everybody's arse is in the air at the same time! and you are usually looking at the floor while doing it. nobody there is looking everyone up and down looking at what you are wearing. i run on local roads, some of my neighbours would be quite sneery, they probably wouldnt even see the vpl and laugh at something else.
