Do these roofbars look odd?

    Hi Folks,

My wife took the car for the weekend and ended up dropping in to a local halfords and getting roof bars and a bike carrier fitted.

She came back last night and although I know little about these things the roof bars look a little odd. From the receipt it looks like they gave her a mixture of exodus and thule gear (perhaps because they didn't have everything in stock)

But should the actual feet be flush with the roof of the car? At the moment they are sticking up quite a bit...does this impact the use/safety etc? The car is an s-max with fix points in the roof

Here is a photo attempting to outline what I am talking about!

    Thanks a bunch

Are the black key cover or bars on the wrong way. The profile looks like the back is on the front and front on the back. Could be wrong.

Thanks for the reply..if I grab the rails I shake the hell out of them they don't budge..you can rock the car back and forth all day so they seem pretty secure.

I know what you mean but I dont think so as I think they key cover is level at the bottom..i.e. not contoured to fit the shape of the roof...maybe they just used a fitting kit from a different model or something

    Thanks for the reply!

Is there a fixing kit/fitting kit on the receipt?

    Receipt shows

    Exodus square bars s127
    Exodus fitting kit F030
    Thule footpack 753

    Thanks for your help!

Once it is secure it should be alright, however, the whistle you're going to get with that set up will drive you crazy.

It looks like the front feet are on the back and the back feet in the front.

I've fitted Thule bars to an S-Max and they fit flush to the roof.

Thanks for the reply..yeah its very solid..tested it on the motorway this evening with a bike on the rough...bit a noise at 120km alright but not too bad.

I guess my question is is the setup supposed to look like that and if not obviously there is something missing / wrong

    Thanks

Ok thanks...I wonder could it be that the fitting kit is an exodus one and the footpack a thule one?

Not sure why they did that

Quick Google says that Exodus stuff is made by Thule and branded Exodus for Halfords, so it's probably the correct kit that was hopefully a bit cheaper than the Thule one, but fitted by a Rufus.

You probably can't even take the whole lot off and swap back to front as the rear bar is a bit longer than the front, so the bars will need to come off the feet.

Its not right. The feet are bolted on but the footpack is wrong. I'd go back and ask them to fit the correct feet. They do spread the load on the roof as well as stopping wind noise.

Halfords should stick to less technical stuff like topping up washer fluid or help you with the shopping.

I wouldn't even trust them with that TBH, probably get it put in the engine oil!biggrin.png

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.
