provided the other teeth are healthy then there is no reason you should have to lose any teeth and depending on the exact situation , all it may take to close the space between your front teeth is a simple filling or two, and if done well, will look great and last well too. If you have a photo of the situation then perhaps we can offer more definite suggestions. best of luck

Thanks. I'd looked into it before with a dentist years ago and they said it couldn't be done that way as they'd be shorter than the width (they almost are as it is). At the time I couldn't afford anything alternative.

Very often is cases like yours the dimensions of the four front teeth have to be altered to keep them all in proportion. The lateral incisors have to be made slightly wider in order to widen the central incisors. This will not result in you having four big front teeth, It means that by making the laterals each .5 mm wider, you can make the centrals .75 mm wider and close the gap without altering the relative proportions of each tooth. Veneers/crowns would have to be placed on all 4 and a tasty dentist & laboratory is required. If your front teeth are worn down a little, the correct lengths can be re-established to improve the width v length proportions and improve cosmetics even more.

A short course of limited objective orthodontics +/- some restoration of the teeth might be the best way to go. Go to a dentists and get your options, post up a photo and maybe we can give a more informed opinion. A smartphone can take a pretty good dental photo.
