90 minutes at Dublin airport

I've got a flight at 6am in a few weeks time.

I normally change my money at the foreign exchange at the airport, but this opens at 4.30am.

I could have my bags checked in before this. So would 90 minutes be enough to get through security and immigration and board my flight or should i consider changing my money before i go?

90 minutes is plenty of time. However, if you're changing money in the airport you're going to be robbed with terrible exchange rates and high commission, so that's a good enough reason to change your money beforehand.

You have a few weeks to organise it. I see no reason to not change it before you go to the airport. As mentioned, it'll be much cheaper.

Where's the best place to change currency?

ICE says they offer 0% commission. I take it they're lying.

There are two costs in forex. The spread on the exchange rate and the commission. If ICE are offering zero commission, then their spread will be bigger.
I'd wager that you'll get fewer dollars for your euro in the airport than in your local bank.

90 minutes might not be enough to get you through for America. Don't risk it. Just change it before hand.

It's definitely not enough time to clear security and immigration and customs bearing in mind they often start boarding 45 minutes before departure.

OP is there a particular reason you need you change money? Your cards will work in the US and it's a lot safer than carrying a large amount of cash

Yeah for an American flight I really wouldn't risk it. Just get it changed at the bank. You can do it online and just pop in to collect it then. Takes less than 10 minutes.

This, and put your money on their PostFX card. Safer than carrying cash, no commission and no charge for cash withdrawals in the States. And you can cash out whatever you don't spend when you get back.

I assume with a 6am flight you are getting a connecting flight in the uk or Europe to the states.

If so 90 mins is plenty - if going direct to the US it's very tight so you would need an extra 30 mins at least

Thanks for all the replies. I'll change the money before I go and give myself more time at the airport. I can always get some breakfast if i end up with more time.
