A bad mix or no problems?

Damaged heel in a run today, have Neurofen. But also have a 6 pack of Aldi beer.

No effects, unless you're making excuses for indecent behaviour.

Often mix them with no effects, sometimes solpadine in the mix too.

Usually late evening of course as a night time pain killer when I'm bad.

Thought Solpadine and alcohol not a good mix, isn't it a painkiller rather than an anti inflammatory? Heard mixing them can be hard on the kidneys (or liver maybe?) but then again I rarely take medication of any sort so could be wrong.

Needs must, when it's bad you'll take anything.

Sniff a couple of lines of cayenne pepper. You'll soon forget about your heel because the pain will be all gone into your nose

    Rheinbacher.

Read the label. No mention of not mixing with Neurofen. I think that's a clear thumbs up!

Not bad grog at all. Always leaves me hangover free next day too.

Definitely mate. If it doesn't say anything about operating heavy machinery, I need a hand with foundations.

    Can you drive a Komatsu?

I do it the whole time, and shur I'm fine! I'm just spending a nice sunny evening lining some cardboard boxes with tinfoil and earthing them so I have something to put electronics into, in case the large coronal hole in the sun faces us directly :)

No, but pretty sure when I finish these my confidence will tell me how hard can it be. Just no heavy pressing with my left foot at the moment.

Anything that abnormally kicks the liver in the goolies* is a bad plan to mix. With Solpadeine, the codeine isn't the issue, the chunk of paracetamol is. IIRC Ibuprofen isn't as bad, but still hammers the liver. Alcohol gives the liver a right workout so…

The liver is an amazing organ. Can take unreal abuse and come back to normal, but if you stretch that elastic band too much, then the medical term is "Fookered" and you may feel right as rain right up the point of failure**.

Your servant, Dr Wibbs. BS. LOLs. ArSe.

*may not be medically accurate, or anatomically possible.

** It's one of the saddest things about paracetamol overdose. The person can apparently recover the next day, feel better and think it's behind them, only to have liver failure a day later. .

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

The beer will probably have an mild anaesthetising effect anyway so maybe suspend the Nuerofen until tomorrow to give your liver a break.

That thought crossed my mind...but it's not so much what will fix my heel as much as will this mix cause me damage. It's preventative rather than seeking an opinion on an injury.

Drink enough alcohol and it will kill the ankle pain. Keep the nurofen for morning for hangover and more ankle relieve. Why are people always looking for the hard solution? ?

I do it all the time, no problems....except for twitch but that only lasts a few days or months.

IIRC, over the counter stuff rarely has enough in it to do any damage unless your taking more then the dosage or are abusing if long term.

Although pharmacist told me to not mix paracetomol with alcohol because they both affect your liver and can do serious damage together under the right circumstances.

As I understand though, when you get an injury, it's as well to start into the whole anti inflammatories/ ice/ compression thing as soon as possible.

Thing about paracetamol is it's only safe because your liver can process it. Alcohol reduces your livers ability to render paracetamol safe.

If you over load your liver then you get a build up of toxic NAPQI. You feel really bad for a while but then appear to recover at which point it's too late. (Bonus points if you take paracetamol when you feel really bad)

Good news - there's an effective antidote.
Bad news - after 13-16 hours it's too late.
Worse news - if you've a hangover then it's probably already past 13 hours and you're a gonner unless you get a liver transplant.
Worser news - if you aren't on the transport list on day two it's really not looking good and having a hangover won't exactly get you to the top of the queue.

If there is any chance of you popping an extra paracetamol or two while drunk or under a hangover then probably lay off the drink or drugs or both.

It is much easier to OD on paracetamol than you think. I did it by taking barely more than the recommended dosage once when I had severe stomach pain from apparent (but might not have been) food poisoning. I recovered from the sick bout, flew back to America (where I lived at the time), went to see my doctor, admitted to "possibly dodgy fish" and "unusually dark urine, maybe I'm still really dehydrated", and got blood tested for hepatitis. Got a call the next day from a very serious nurse, "your liver enzymes are ***ing astronomical... go immediately to the other clinic and get about six litres of blood drawn for every test we can think of". Ruled out everything viral, bacterial, or autoimmune. All we could point to was the paracetamol. I recovered gradually and had no further issues.

Well, yesterday I took 400mgs of buplex (generic ibuprofen) for period pain that was making my back sore but too late as it then went into spasm so I had to take valium to stop the spasm and anti-inflammatories. It was the bottle of wine I had last night that stopped my back pain .
    No hangover today :D
That's the last Friday I'm ever going to vacuum again.

I found out the hard way that ibuprofen can cause kidney pain. I was in Bogota with a twisted ankle and the pharmacist told me to take two 800 mg pills (yes, they sell them at that strength!) three times a day. I traded the sore ankle for what I thought was back pain. Ugh.

Feck the Ibrobrufen, solpadine, paracetamol etc ~ Tramadol with alcohol is where I get comfortably numb.
