Whack the noisy bits with a hammer until they are no longer noisy.

You'd be surprised how many things this tactic can be applied to.

On a more serious note if there's a control panel somewhere you can possibly just acknowledge the fault and then maybe disable the zone/trigger so that the alarm doesn't re-occur.

Wedge a piece of cardboard underneath the cover.
You need to make sure the microswitch is closed(pushed up).
It's a tiny white switch under the cover.
Then reset the panel and get the glass replaced asap.

Or if you can ,disable that particular device(not zone) at the panel.
Then replace the glass as soon as you can.

Or if neither of those work, light a small fire under the stairs and go for a few pints.

Either via the control panel or turn it off completely. May need to trip the switch and disconnect any backup battery

    Not sure I'd do that.

If the glass is split in the middle, which it should be, wrap it in sello-tape and pop it back in. Had to do this just a couple weeks ago, worked a treat. Failing that just silence the alarm at the fire panel.

I wouldn't be disabling the alarm completely... Might live to regret that.

Sorry this is an apartment? Definitely don't disable then. Was assuming a small business or something

I suppose you could start a fire and get the fire brigade to fix it for you.

Sello tape. Put the pieces back together, sello tape it, insert back into break glass unit, wait 10 seconds for alarm to stop. Job done.

Tape the glass or turn it around the other way. There's a little micro switch at the top the glass needs to push up. Only then can you reset it

Burn a few neighbouring buildings down then ask fire brigade for advice.

Go to the panel again. Turn the key and then press silence. It should stop ringing. Then press reset system. Turn the key back again and the system will be running as normal. If the system is still sounding, turn the key again and press silence.

If the glass isn't completely smashed just turn it back to front

That's not going to work.Unless the breakglass is replaced or reset into box,the fire condition will remain on the panel.

A lot of times there is spare break glass glass in a small cardboard box on top of the fire control panel.

Failing that, bring a piece of cardboard, a pair of scissors and a screwdriver down to the panel. Take out the screw, pull up the front cover, you'll see a small switch at the top that the glass holds up. Cut the piece of cardboard to the correct size and place it where the glass would be, pressing the switch up.

Goes without saying, but make sure there's isn't a fire in the building first.

The more modern breakglasses don't have a glass at all,but a resettable "glass".
It's just a thin piece of plastic which can be pushed back up into place with a bank card or something similar.

I'm guessing however at this stage, nearly four hours later, the building is burned to the ground anyway.
