Just bought it last week and it seems very heavy on petrol, I needed a car in a hurry after an insurance claim and kinda bought on impulse. I bought from garage and it seems to be in immaculate condition with 77,000m on clock(cartell checked). Im getting 100 miles for 20 quid, just wondering what I should be getting. When I asked garage guy he said it was ok on petrol, anyway any advice appreciated :)

you need to do a more scientific test than that, but yeah they're relatively hard on petrol.

    €20 = 15.8l
    100 miles = 162km

    9.75 l/100km
    29mpg.

think is. your method of measuring how much fuel used isnt accurate. you need to fill the tank, do say 100/200 km then refill and calculate.

    100miles for 20 euros.
So that's around 15 litres of petrol at current prices.

So 15 litres for 160 kms which is 9.3 litres for 100km which is around 25 mpg. That's low enough but I suppose depends on what kind of driving you do. I get 28mpg in my 1.4 but I drive around town a lot and I'm quite aggressive.

43mpg for my 1.2 Fiesta mix of city/country driving but I generally have a heavy foot. I wouldn't be happy with what you're getting anyway.

I had two Almeras over a 3 year period. Was getting 30mpg on average from both.

Bought a 2.0 diesel Mondeo last year and I'm getting 50mpg.

I liked the Almeras apart from the fuel economy and the fact 4th gear is horrendous.

If your driving it around down that's about as good as you will get.

OP, what are you comparing it to? Is it being compared to another similar Almera, another type of car or no comparison at all and it just hasn't met what you thought it would be?

If it is being compared to another similar Alerma then there might be an issue with the car itself.
If it is being compared to a different type car then it's like comparing apples and oranges. Weight, engine power, size all come into.

How many liters are you getting for €20? The few stations I regularly pass differ by nearly 20c a litre. The only way to know the fuel consumption is to brim the tank, do your normal driving, then brim the tank again taking note of liters put in and miles/km covered. Gauging fuel consumption from putting in the odd score isn't accurate.

Have you checked that it has the correct size wheels/tyres and that they are inflated to the correct pressure? How heavy is your right foot and where is most of the driving done? Has it had a proper service? What sort of load is it hauling?
