    Hi

Ive had a mk7 golf Gti for just over a year now and considering a change. Would consider anything but would need to be quick (250bhp+), don't fancy paying more than 600 tax and I'd like an auto, that about it really.

Budget wise would be 30-35k, ideally I'd like to sell my car privately so I can buy private if the rite car comes up but don't mind trading in either.

Any ideas? Golf R is nice but not any about in my price range , any other suggestions welcome.

    Thanks

    Bmw 335 or similar?
Do you want small and sporty or a barge etc?

Not after a barge ..335 is the biggest I'd want, if budget was more the golf r would be ideal. 335 is lovely , but tax is excessive and I've read a lot of horror stories on injectors and turbos so I'd be inclined to steer clear.

I'm pretty happy with the gti, just looking for a change, this is my third one!

Similar running gear to the GTi.

With that budget you'd get one under warranty and under the new tax regime!

New tax system does this car no favours!

I'm pretty sure a recent 335i is reasonable to tax.

Post 2010 models have improved emissions, still 1200 to tax though

If i was spending 35k on a "Fast car" last thing i'd be buying is an Octavia :p

How practical does it have to be ?

Not at all , as long as it fits 2 adults , and has at least token rear seats!

Tax is what's going to limit you here, 600 cuts things down alot.

Leaves you with hot hatches and fast diesels and not much else.

    Understandable.

I came on boards first owning a 5 year old skoda octavia 1.4 wanting cheap tax and a 320d coupe :p

    Since then

    Modified Focus ST
    B6 S4
    Now 535d

Maybe a nice Nismo 350z with an invidea gemini catback next.

Man math car logic always wins :)

How about an nice sensible e60 m5 ?

Trade the GTI in for either the new golf gti clubsport edition 40 or golf R .. pcp 1.9% ..

Get yourself this classic 911 and a cheap runabout on a regular insurance policy. Within budget and a nice low tax bracket.

I think you should try and forget about the tax for a year or to so many better options with that budget then .

Not possible. Unless you go classic car. In that case I would recommend a Porsche 928. The S2 ('83-86) is 320BHP, 4.7l V8 (and most are auto!), very cheap to insure and only €56 to tax for the year. Seriously fast car too. Will just about beat most of the fastest new hot hatches from the green traffic light, but then will leave all of them behind from 100km/h to 250km/h

Mine (automatic) switched up from 3rd into 4th gear at 200km/h

Aren't they savage to maintain though? A chap on here his dad had one I believe, I think he said it was an engine out job just to do the timing belt and tensioners! I'm very open to correction on this!
