First runners under his name are out Monday, declarations due Sunday. Will be good to keep an eye on him, I think he'll do well.

He already has a large stable (about 100 in). Guess that will grow

Robbie Mc Namara will be starting soon too, be good to see if Dr Lamb or any of Welds crew have gave him a few nice types.

I've thrown a few of these into various combinations. His supporters will want to get him off to a good start, so I'd be disappointed if there aren't 3 winners there.

He was asked on ATR where he would be and he said he'd be at Goffs(sales)

Aidan is still overseeing the saddling of the horses at the races. A friend of mine has a horse with him and Aidan was calling the shots and making sure everything was right. He's not going to let Joseph fail that's for sure!!!

Mullins versus O'Brien in a bumper - how often are we going to see this in the future?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,929 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

4 winners on his debut - not a bad way to get things started :pac: Shame Kalopsia battered that first hurdle, I would have had a lucky 31 up if it had won.

There was one that ran against his first runner on the 6th June where his dad's was gambled on

    1st (6) 4 Justice Frederick (IRE) Joseph P O'Brien 2 9-5 D O'Brien (3) 6/4

    2nd (2) 1½ 5 Leo Minor (USA) A P O'Brien 2 9-5 J A Heffernan 6/5f

It was bad enough when Aidan had 2 runners in a race

Even as a trainer he is handed everything. 100 horses already and probably a decent stocked yard

The way I see it is like a father handing over a business or setting up their children in some way. I don't get where the resentment is coming from. Would you resent David Pipe for the way he was set up?

He has had first hand tuition from one of the greatest trainers this country has ever seen.
Best of luck to him and I hope he succeeds.

We have a wonderful history of knocking our own when they try to raise their head in any walk of life. Sad really

He's undoubtedly being backed in a way that no other rookie trainer could dream of, but at the end of the day the training game is result driven. If he doesn't do the business, he will be out on his ear.

Another winner there in 1st Clonmel

Hey good luck to him. The fall will be harder if he fails,Charlie Swan amd Christy Roache had good support from JP

Joseph won't fail though, if one notes that Aiden gave him credit for things done in training.

Thing is, it is not what you know, but who you know, especially in a small country like Ireland. Good job Gordon Elliott has established himself by now.

What is guys like Eddie Lynam doing wrong? He jas shown that once he gets good horses he can achieve things :Anthem Alexander, Slade Power, Sole Power, Agnes Steward

100 horses and he is not even 25 .Wow

Lynam is a great trainer but big owners want to win classics and premier races over a mile and middle distances which Lynam has failed to do. His strike rate in those races is horrific in comparison to his runners in sprints.

He has not really been given the horses (quality wise)to achieve it . Agnes Steward was potentially a good three year old but she got injured

But fair enough about your explanation. . Cowell in England also seems to be stuck with the speed king label too

Just spent a million at the sales and when Aiden uses all his noms to the top stallions to his mares it can only get better.

Will be some force in Ireland and England

33/1 winner at Gowran just there - pipping his dads well backed horse to the post. Magnier and co. won't be pleased, especially with Aidan helping junior. Conflict of interest?

Stupid father's day lunch was gonna do it with feane horses today sick is not the word

Hope they are as confident about his horse in the third in leopardstown or will one of Aidens spring out.

Have him all over the shop as a banker with Ken Condons in the first.

what really matters is his ability to produce winners, look at the irish 1,000 guineas

going to be a force to be reconked with across both codes, wonder how long before he'll have to go concentrate on one code, has the momentum now and plenty of support going by his purchasing this week

I know some of the training for flat horses is done in the winter, but he is young, would it be possible for him to give both codes ago for a while? He'd hardly go flat full time while his father is around? I know one of Vincent O'Brien's sons famously pipped the father at the Epsom Derby.
