Rear shocks Megane Mk1

    So my 1999 Megane failed the NCT due to a leaking rear shock The other rear shock does not appear to be leaking and the imbalance measured by the NCT was close to 0 and the Mahameter reading was not very high.

    Anyhow, I will replace both rear shocks as it looks like an easy job. So my main question is what parts to get and where to get them. Also, silly question, do shocks come with whatever is needed to fit them eg new bolts etc.

    Looking at Micksgarage they have a selection of rear shocks for the Megane Mk1

    "Master sport" twin tube for 27 quid
    "Optimal" twin tube 33 quid
    "Sachs" twin tube 52 quid
    "KYB" mono tube 60 quid
    "KYB" mono tube 74 quid

    All are said to be gas pressure. Which should I get? The cheapest?

    I would go with KYB myself having used them before. Sachs might be good too.

    In the end I got "Meyle" brand as I had heard of the brand and they were the 2nd cheapest (this brand wasn't on the list when I looked initially hence not in OP)

    NCT retest passed anyway and interestingly there was almost no difference in the Mm reading with any of the rear shocks in the test or retest.

    Leaking 17 year old Renault shock - low 50s Mm reading
    Not leaking 17 year old Renault shock - low 50s Mm reading
    New Meyle shocks - both low 50s Mm reading.
