For those of you who decide to mingle with all the other passengers and hope for the best with yer contraband, did you know.... the airline tags have a strip that indicates whether the bags are from EU or not. So the Customs know where you came from!

Obviously that only applies to checked baggage, so hand luggage might get through alright, still, they know who to target just the same.

    Bruce told me that!

    What?

He is Bruce Heller, an unlikely star of a show on Sky2 about the Irish Customs. See youtube. It's hilarious, but not meant to be.....;)

200 cigs? That would last about a week so.

    €400 worth of goods?
Sure you'd spend that on handbags and sunglasses from Paddy Yebohah in the Celtic jersey.

    What's the point going anymore.....?
    They're ruining it.

Get a massive bag and fill it with tobacco and then cover it with thin layer of weed on top. They'll never notice the tobacco.

The allowances from outside the EU haven't changed in a long time

If you travel within the EU, you can buy a lot more as long as it is for "personal use"

What happens if you bring back too much, fine, pay duty, taken off you?

250 grams is non EU limit, they will seize anything over this "if" they catch you. If you were to take the piss and say bring back 5kg or more you would likely be getting a fine with trip to court. On "Stop, Search, Seize" on Sky 1 they let the people keep their allowance and seized the rest.

The oul Canary Islands cig run.

Officially its one 200 pack. But I have been stopped and scanned with 600 in my case packed loosely and no questions asked. Customs are really after 1000s packed into checked in cases for obviously sell on. I lived there and travelled back regularly with my holiday stash (600) and never had a problem, even when stopped.

But considering that Canary Island flights land late at night and customs are expecting them, the glare will be on you. I was stopped many times only travelling with hand luggage. Nothing to hide, but customs are suspicious of Canary Island flights.

Just walk behind a family of scrotes (its the Canaries so should be 70% of the flight) as you walk past customs, they'll get stopped as you shake your head disapprovingly and sail on to freedom.

Honestly. That's a busy time in T1 Dub, so who knows. In T2 its always quiet enough. I don't want to advocate anything, but if you are thinking of filling suitcases full of cartons and amberleaf, I'd reccommend thinking again. As I said already, Canary Island flights are targeted. The media is full of stories of eejits being caught with loaded suitcases.

Literally all I want is 500g of tobacco, double the limit, but still in half of the limit from mainland spain

if i were you, id be bringing back at least 2 bundles (20x50g packs) of tobacco. youll regret not doing when youre back here. 2 bundles might get you 9/10 months of the year. 3 bundles will get you through the year, 4 bundles will get your other 3 bundles paid for

You can pay the duty or have it confiscated. I was told once that if you are caught with over the limit tobacco allowance then you are "flagged" for being stopped every time you go through customs but I'm not sure how that is enforced. Often I go through customes and there's actually nobody there. And that's not just Ireland but many countries' airports.

even if that cunt stopped being so rude and aggressive he would still be a complete moron for using slang like "buddy" and "narky" in front of the likes of a Chinese tourist who he was fully aware had little english.

I actually wondered if he was the full shilling, he is oblivious to what a cunt he is, I feel sorry for his family.

I can imagine his workmates at home in bits laughing saying to friends "see, for years I told you he was like that, and you wouldn't believe me"

You can take a whole lot more than 250g if it's for personal use. If it's all the same type of tobacco you'll be fine.

There's always someone there, the big mirror isn't for checking your hair and makeup before meeting loved ones in arrivals.

Last time I arrived back from Canary Islands, Customs and Excise stand in Dublin Airport was alive and open for business- i had never seen it so busy.

It's no secret what the flight times are and a LOT of people were trying to bring in that little bit too many cigarettes. Can't blame you for trying I guess given the prices there but I'd advise against it from what i've seen on my trips.

I recently gave them up but up to then I hadn't bought tobacco in Ireland for about 5 years.

6 months supply was bought in the canaries every year.

The other 6 months supply was bought in a European airport while travelling on business.

I used to fill a separate bag and just walk through customers with no hassle at all.

No way would I pay the crazy duty here.

Since that show on sky I find going to thru customs at dublin a bit nerve racking, especially when Bruce is standing there.
He is great in the show though.
