hi all, so we have a little 1.1 car, and the piston rings are worn and its failing emissions.

so i came up with a plan, and id like you guys to tell me if its a rubbish plan, please.

What i did was, got a brand new cat and sensor, and im going to drive to the test center and fit it there, becuse i figure, the oil is contaminating the o2 sensor, and its messing up the cat

....soooo, if the cat and sensor are lierally zero seconds old, they should do an excellent job, and it will pass the emissions test.

by the way, it wasnt failing emmisions by much, i dont recall exactly, but if .39% is allowed then our car was at 1.5%

    what ye think?

A new cat will be like €150 fitted and a sensor could be another €100 (just for one). Is it really worth it if they are destroyed quickly and the car may not even pass the NCT in the first place?

no, I paid 50 euros for an unused one from a fiat uno on adverts, and i got the sensor off ebay for like 26 euros or something. Its already done, i spent the week cutting and welding it so now i can just remove the old one and replace it with the new one in about 10 mins, maybe less, maybe 7 mins.

Sure go for it if you want to keep it for another year! That's cheap enough for the cat and sensor anyway :)
