Test tomorrow

So the big day is finally upon me. I'm nervous as hell, I feel sick, my partner just keeps telling me "it's just 20 mins of good driving and you'll pass". She got me kalms tablets as I had a complete break down yesterday, I was bawling, it wasn't pretty - snot and tears everywhere - but I think I needed to get it out of my system.

I have a 2 hour test warm up in the morning, 10.30 to 12.30 then my test at 12.45.

I feel like I'll blank, forget everything. I'm watching those ISM videos on YouTube and going through the signs and rules of the road but it just feels like its going over my head.

I had a mock test a couple of weeks ago, it was a disaster to say the least. So yesterday I drove around Navan for a good 3 hours, my partner giving me instructions on where to go including hill start, reverse around a corner and turn about. We even went through questions, road signs, under the bonnet. It went well, still my observation needs to improve.

I just need to hold my nerve.

Not asking for advice or tips, I've been reading through this forum for all of that. I just wanted to rant I suppose. I want to pass, I doubt myself though.

What do you do when you feel like this?

You sit down and think - what is the worst that can happen tomorrow?
An accident? That is hopefully very unlikely.

After that, maybe you will fail. Is this the end of the world? No. You will just apply again and get it another time.

Just relax as much as you can and don't build it up to be more than it is. If you pass, fantastic, but if you don't, there are far worse things can happen.

Hopefully tomorrow we will see you in the successful thread. Get a good night's sleep and know that you WILL pass at some stage.

Let's go for tomorrow, but if not tomorrow, then another day.

You're so right, it's not the end of the world. I want to go into it tomorrow full of positive thoughts but my self doubt eats away at me.

I'll give it my best shot tomorrow and if it doesn't go my way then I'll just try again.

Thanks for that, I think that's all I needed. Very much appreciated!

Just thinking about my mock test and reversing around a corner.

When doing my lessons my instructor told me to lower the side mirror when doing this manoeuvre so I can see the curb better and then re-adjust the mirror once I've completed the reverse, but when I did that in the mock test the tester told me to have the side mirror at a happy medium so I can see any cars on that side of me but also that i can see the curb.

Fair enough, I understand that but is it wrong to move the mirror to better see the curb? I do have to move mine manually so leaning over the tester probably isn't the best idea.

Another thing the mock tester told me was I signal too late sometimes. He said I should signal as soon as the instruction is given but during the mock test there were turn offs before some junctions so I waited until I passed them then signaled for my turn. Is this not right? Am I not misleading the traffic behind if I signal and pass the turn off.

Sorry if that doesn't make sense, not sure what way to word it. I'll be asking my instructor tomorrow anyway but I'm interested to see what others have to say.

    Hi,

No problem with moving the mirror, only downside, you may forget to re-adjust afterwards. If you are confident you will not forget then re-adjust, otherwise set half and half.

Also no problem with asking the examiner to adjust.

When you ask him to adjust you could also add, "don't forget to re-adjust when we've finished. :o

Indicating, you are correct. That was idiotic, extremely bad advice. Are you sure you heard correctly. ? You would be marked for misleading signals. Certain situations could be a grade 3.

Personally, when I was an instructor did not believe in pre-tests - waste of time and money.

    Best of luck

    Thanks for your reply.

I'll see how I get on with the mirror at half and half during my warm up and if I feel I need to adjust it during my test then I will.

As for the the indicating, oh I definitely heard him right because it baffled me as to why I would indicate straight away when I could mislead the traffic behind.

Anyway, I was just curious as to what people thought.

Hopefully it all goes well today because I've spent a clear fortune on lessons and after the mock test the guy recommended at least 6 hours of lessons before my test - in 2 weeks, that's around 300Euro, needless to say I didn't get those lessons - where do people find the money?

    Thanks again

You'll be in lunchtime traffic no need to stress im driving 20 years but only done my test a few years ago passed no bother and my test was at 4:30 so rush hour traffic!I redone my test again and requested an earlier time and stated above reason and passed again.best of luck.

Ah I failed but it's OK, I know what I did wrong and I've booked my next test. On wards and upwards.

You know what to expect now, you know where you went wrong and you will pass in the future. Bring it on.
