Were posters aware that 'Part B' is currently being revised/considered fro revision? I ordered a 'set of TGDs' from Governemrnt Publications on Tuesday and was tod they would be delivered today, cost E69. Courier delivered just now and I was taken aback when I opened to see the box folder wasn't completely full. When I inspected I found Parts A and B not included. Phoned back publications office and was told that what I got was the list that they had/were told to issue and/or that Parts A and B were either withdrawn or out of print. Dept person, when I phoned, said A was out of print and B not available - as it was under review.
Was there as general notification about that? I don't see it on Department's website!??

Wow - bit of a coincidence - I saw an Engineer's Ireland talk advertised yesterday evening and one of the topics was the "new" Part B.

    I said to myself - "I didn't know that was under review - surprised I hadn't heard!"

Did they charge you full whack whilst not giving you the longest (most expensive to print) part of the package?

No they charged me per item. I was expecting E100 or thereabouts and was surprised at E69. When I add in the cost of A and B (13+9=21)it would come to E90. What annoyed me, a bit anyway, was that the agent didn't mention the 'unavailable/out of print' issue esp. since it was Part B that I wanted. Its a pain for me to read it online and even bigger pain to print - 172 pages. Maybe the review is a bit hush hush; shades of Priory Hall etc.

Yes, its been under alteration for over 2 years now. Rumoured to be released this year in 2 parts, similar to Part L, Domestic and non-domestic parts.
It has been talked about on these forums for a while now.

The TGD-B review is very broad and wide ranging, and has been going on for around 4 years, there were consultation workshops, submissions requested etc. back since 2012 - all in the public domain:
    http://www.environ.ie/housing/building-standards/building-regulations/public-consultations-archive#Review%20of%20Part%20B%20(Fire%20Safety)%20-%20Building%20Regulations%201997%20-%202006

Since then there have been studies commissioned on specific topics, consultative committee meetings, regulatory impact studies drafted etc etc, as well as presentations at conferences like IBCI, IFE and CFOA regarding proposals.

Just coz some people are out of touch doesn't mean its a "hush hush" conspiracy :)

The draft should be out in the next couple of months - as mentioned it's going to be in 2 volumes, similar to Approved Document B, but in terms of content.

Official Dept progress review of all the regs:
