6S - Fresh install question

6S camera lag issue is annoying the hell out of me. On latest FW. Erased all contents and settings. Restored from icloud backup. Problem persists. So, if I do not restore from backup and set up as new phone, is there a way to just recover all the contacts and messages? (The apps I can work through reinstalling over time)

Contacts, yes, they'll sync with iCloud if enabled. Also any iCloud calendars, reminders, Safari bookmarks, and notes stored in iCloud. Basically anything you have access to via iCloud.com.

Messages, no. They are only stored in the backup.
