Irritating radio ad

Has anyone heard that radio ad for a car brand with a sales specialist making statements about family life?

"Family life can be challenging, dat's (that's) for shoo-oar (sure)"

It now involves a conversation between the speaker and a child..

Is this type of ad supposed to be taken seriously or is intended to be Father Ted-esque satire?

I think it's someone putting on, or at least exaggerating, the accent, others think it's a real accent, possible from around Louth.

    Barry Sheridan.

    Hi.

The ad has blokes discussin it in an internet forum. Some might call it a success.

Some might call it a success.

The brand hasn't been mentioned yet, so not really.

I've no doubt he's real, but real from where?

Possibly Cavan, I know a few from around there but haven't come across one like that, maybe the Louth/Monaghan/Cavan border area.

Anyway, I don't think the ad is irritating, it's trying to place that accent that is.

I like it because that run of Skoda ads are using people with regional accents.
It's a welcome break from the soft generic middle class accents with a twist of American affectation that pervade Irish ads that usually end with tag lines such as "...it's all good!".

Google says he's based in the Cavan dealership, so that's a likely bet.

I agree - to an extent - but that pronunciation is pushing the boundaries!

I've noticed that agencies are now taking the post-modern approach, everyone knows the typical set-up so they parody it as a way round our contempt.

Radio ads in general are irritating!
Steve: "Hey Paul, where did you get those awesome shoes?"

Paul: "Oh hey Steve, I got these down in O'Brien & Son's Shoes"

    Steve: "Where?"

    Paul: "O'Brien & Son's Shoes, they're having a sale on RIGHT NOW!"

Steve: "Wow I should get down to O'Brien & Son's Shoes!"

Paul: "That's right, O'Brien & Son's Shoes have a large range of footwear for both men and women!"

Steve: "Excellent news, what was the name of that store again?"

    Paul: "That's O'Brien & Son's Shoes!"

Steve: "Great! Off to O'Brien & Son's Shoes for me, then!"

    *Soulless laughter*

Announcer: "O'Brien & Son's Shoes, for all your footwear needs. SALE NOW ON!"

    "Brave Knows...."

    "Smart Flies...."

Are these people using the same stupid fking advertising agency? Does Brave get up at 7.30AM and fly somewhere with Smart?

Was going to start a thread on this advert too.
Cannot listen to it and instantly change stations regardless to the show i'm listening to.
No other radio ad has rattled me before but grrrrrr.

Haven't heard that ad yet. The one that drives me mental is an ad for low cost holidays on 4fm. The woman on the ad sounds like a teenage boy when his voice is just starting to break. She repeats the same phrase about twenty times with an oh I'm sooo happy tone to her voice. Whoever gave the OK to let this woman record that ad and broadcast it should be shot.

You can't blame the kid, he's only doing what he's told. I'm sure he'll be mortified in years to come.

The ad is seriously irritating though, I run to the radio to turn it off every time I hear it. Would completely put me off buying a skoda too.

Some people seem to think it's target audience "to corner the market of people with special needs"

In my view that's a discriminatory nasty way of looking at it
