Half Marathon in 26 days

Hi All. I am new to running. Currently there are some races on in a few weeks where I live. My wife wants to join the 21k but I kind of want to do 10. Of course we could go seperately.

Currently I can comfortably run 10k in 60 minutes. Is it over ambitious to try and get to half marathon distance in 26 days? Would I do any harm to myself trying to do half marathon. We are not so interested in time(yet) as we are just starting out. What do you guys think?

I would say it is a little ambitious for you OP, but not sure about your wife since you don't tell us about her level.

Assuming the same, I would say you both join the 10k just for the experience. 21k for your first race event just seems wrong - not saying you can't do it however.

What's the furthest distance you have done so far?

Did some races before. Few 5ks and a 10k. Wife is the same level more or less. We run together.

I'd give the half in 26 days a miss. Pick an event maybe 6/8 weeks away and train specifically for it. No point trying to do a half with little training and coming away with an injury. Just my opinion.

If you don't have a time in mind, then go for it. It's a half-marathon, it's not that big an effort. As for your "harm" question, that's a question for your doctor ideally...

Hard to know without knowing your currently weekly millage OP.
If your weekly millage is less, for example, less than 20k, trying to run 21k in one go might leave you pretty sore at best.
If you've been running more than, say, 30k per week, it might be less risky.

Also, there's loads of HMs during the summer. Why not train properly for one of those?
