    As an aside, did you know that the French for "house martin" is "hirondelle de fenêtre", i.e. "window swallow"?

    Back in the 1970s the Glenview Hotel (overlooking the Glen of the Downs) used to be chocker with their nests every year - all virtual level with the bedroom windows. I wonder are they still in residence there?

    Don't think so, I'm more likely to be up there in the winter but must remember to take a look if I'm there anytime soon..

    Won't be going near them. Great for the kids to see nature up close, they're delighted that they have birds living on their house (even though they have a parrot in the house).

    They're literally right outside a bedroom window, the bedroom isn't used too much, usually once a week, so I'm afraid that they moved in when it was quiet and the Mammy and Daddy might get scared off when we have people staying in the room and abandon the nest.
