Sks mudguards breaking

Got a set of these from Chain Reactions cycles online only2 months ago and just below were there attached to the front fork the mudguard along with the flap has broken off while cycling. Has this happened to anyone else and if so did you try to repair it yourself or try to get a replacement. If you got a replacement did you have to unattach the rear mudguard and the rest of the front and send it back or did you just send back the broken part and explained in the return document what happened?

Pretty much every part on my sks mudguards either broke or wasn't very good.
Out of the box the front flap was warped and took an age to get to the right shape. The flap did a good enough job in the wet but made the front wheel like a weather cock in the wind!
The metal brackets broke and I bought a replacement set.
The rear mudguard snapped right across, under one of the metal supports and I ended up with more gaffer tape and hi-speed tape than plastic there.
The final straw was when one section refused to lock onto the metal tab (attached to the brake) and kept falling off.
It was a shame as when they were working, they did a good job, but despite looking quite tough, they were in fact quite flimsy.
I'd get a refund and get a set of cruds

Get a set of MKII Cruds. I've had mine over 2 years and they're still in perfect working order with nothing broken off yet although I did lose a few of those stupid little plastic screws but replaced them with micro zip ties.

My rear SKS Chromoplastic mudguard shattered into several pieces after 3 months. Mudguards advertised as "virtually unbreakable".

I have my Mk 2 Cruds on my winter hack bike 3 if not 4 years now,no problems so far.

My experiences are the exact opposite tbh. Had Mk1 cruds on my road bike and they shattered within a couple of weeks. Switched to raceblades and they worked great for ages, just a bit fiddly to get on.

Then switched to raceblade longs and they're great, no issues.

I've been running permanent SKS mudguards on my commuter for five years and they've been bombproof. Come through a couple of scrapes and drops with just a little bit of distortion.

The one thing I do remember about SKS though is that the installation instructions are far less than helpful.

My front race blade snapped in half on the Miltary Road a couple of weeks ago, on the descent after Glenmacnass heading towards the Sally Gap. It was into a (b@stard of a) cross head wind, but was surprised it happened. Meant to try and claim back from the shop, but then the sun came out and I forgot about it until now (and that head wind made it a pretty forgettable ride to be honest!).

Impressively it managed to fly off straight onto on my shin (inside curve around my leg), so I didn't even have to go back for it!

I have SKS race blades. After about a week, the front one snapped, around the midpoint. I emailed them with pics of the damage. They sent me a new set.

Jep, Was it from CRC you purchased them?

Bought from Total Cycling in Northern Ireland.

But it was SKS themselves I emailed about it and got a replacement from.

SKS customer service is good. Email them about the problem. They sent me out of a new rear chromoplastic when it split.

The metal rods attaching the mudguard to the eyelets are too long for practically every bike and have to be cut. Not cutting them correctly and forcing the mudguard to fit leads to a lot of stress on the mudguard and it breaks.
These are a complete pain in the arse to fit correctly. The first time I fitted a set they eventually broke due to me not cutting the metal rods to the correct length.

When they do work they are fantastic mudguards.

I fitted another set yesterday so we'll see did I do a better job this time!

edit : never thought of taking photos and emailing SKS for a set. In fairness I fitted them badly.
