Apparently we are all supposed to get one, a "tin" tax identification number from the EU. The EU will be imposing taxes on a federal level soon so they have to lay the groundwork for that. I hope the additional EU taxes won't be too high as I am up to me eyeballs in taxes already.

    Is this for real?

I read this and the first thought I have is:
'Hang on a second, should we not get a chance to vote on the government on an EU level. Like voting for a federal government.'

    Yes indeed...
MEPs on the European Parliament's Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee have approved a plan to introduce the EU equivalent of a PPS number.

The so-called European Taxpayer Identification number is seen by Eurosceptics as a precursor to a European tax. Supporters of the plan say it would make exchanging tax information more efficient.

I have more than a pain in the swiss with the EU at this stage.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

    Its your PPS number.

All thats being done now is a centralised portal whereby tax numbers are shared between EU countries to aid in the prevention of fraud.

Such a noble gesture. I trust the EU 100%. Of course they would never lie to us about anything, they would never set something up and lie to us about why it was set up. It is all about the prevention of fraud! All this centralisation of power is about the prevention of fraud. They are doing it for our own good.

You get your answer, its doesn't fit your anti EU narrative, so its all lies. GTF

    We are the EU.

Part of our taxes are paid into a pot to pay for it already.

Separating tax paid to the EU on our payslips would make it clear how much or how little it costs and could prompt engagement or evaluation that currently doesn't happen.

Well, you just made up something about federal taxation on your own; so you're rather good at the lying to people

But we are keeping the recovery going, aren't we? A direct result of voting YES FOR JOBS. Experts said we are better together. Going forward I hope our European Partners and experts tell us how lucky we are on a more regular basis to drive the point home.

What do you think the push for EU tax harmonisation is all about? That and the fact that the EU is building the infrastructure for centralised taxation. Yeah yeah, it is just benevolent oversight. Stop fraud, blah blah blah. How naive you all are.

Our attractive corporation tax rates will be going out the window soon despite all the posturing by Noonan and all the other EU sock puppets in Leinster house.

Hope Uk votes to leave and for it all to come crashing down.
Let Germany have it , they love it so much they can have all the big ideas to themselves.

Uk and Ireland should join forces in trade and business. Share a currency and take on the rest of Europe.

Hmmm. I'm sure like many others on here, I have both a NIN and PPS. How will they match them back together?

The problem with the UK leaving is the possibility of it all coming crashing down. . .on us.

The people of this country could force a referendum and leave the EU. Heaven forbid we think for ourselves

Problem is, we have danced on the coat tails of alot of countries for the majority of time since we became a republic. We are neurotic about having independence.
